Photo by Staff Sgt. Jim GreenhillDan Wheldon died Sunday. He is survived by his wife and two children.

He was killed in a 15 car pile up Las Vegas Motor Speedway, doing what he must certainly have loved.

Dan was known as one of the good guys of sport. The picture above was taken before a gala honoring advocates of a National Guard program providing training and education for high school dropouts. In 2008 he won the 2008 Iowa Corn Indy 250 and promptly donated his winnings to help the victims of flooding and tornadoes in that state.

Others have and will chronicle his life better than I will ever be able to do, but here are some images of him in happier times.

The world of motor racing is one car quieter tonight, and a wife and family are grieving. My heart goes out to them.
